Pfosten 15 -=►Another Visit to our adopted Company◄
First, we passed our Gantt Chart to our professor, this will serve us our guide in our schedules and target dates regarding with our major paper. Last September 9 was our schedule for another company visit. Luckily, we are able to gather more datas that can help us with the completion of our major paper because in our previous visit we are not able to collect a sufficient data.
Last September 9, 2008(Tuesday), me and my groupmates try to contact NEDA to ask if we can have another visit on there office. And fortunately, Sir Tep allowed us and we immediately went into there office.
During our interview, we focused all our questions on their HRIS since we never ask about that in our previous interview. Gladly, we found out tht they have ther own HRIS which they call as NEDA Personnel Information System(NPIS). But there NPIS was no longer updated and it was an old program because they are still using a DOS-based program or the older version of Visual FoxPro.
Sir Tep has been so nice to us in sharin his opinion on their NPIS and the reason why it was not updated. He told us that it was there main computer os the server affects there database when it bugged down.And he share to us that they did not use that program for years.

According to them, the Human Resource Management’s roles are to receive and transmit payrolls, compute budget for the whole year, entertain applicants, interview applicants, designate applicants to other offices, deals with the compensation, managing the employees, gives disciplinary actionsto their employees and conduct seminars and trainings. They told me that the nature of their organization is more developed and their functions have expanded and their facilities now are more convenient than before.
For them, the scope of the HRM is from the lowest rank employees up to the top rank employees. According to Mr. Melliza, the scope of the HRM is from the utility to the department head. They told me that all the things that mentioned are similar with the concept of their organization.
I agree with their ideas about the nature, scope and role of the human resource because all the things that they have shared are the same things that I have learned from our past discussions in our subject and also based from the things that I have understood from our adopted company.

---FIRST VISIT---
I could actually say that this is one of the most memorable day of my life not only because its our first time to visit our adopted company but because of the adventure we had before we got into the office. Seriously, none of us in our group knows how to get to NEDA XI. We ride on the jeepney and stop to a place were in very unusual to all of us. We tried to trace the streets but after a long walk, an unexpected problem happened. Gosh! I never expect that my shoes will be damaged after my groupmate had accidentaly stepped the back part of my shoe. I almost cried because I really dont know what to do at the center of this unknown place for us. But thanks to my dearest groupmates, they bought a rugby to help me fix my shoe. And thanks God! they made it! And then, we continue on our journey.(-_-) After a very long walk, we finaly reach our destination. We just simply submit our letter and for the first we meet Mrs. Estrada.
---SECOND VISIT---
After being approved by the NEDA XI, we are scheduled to visit our adopted company. Unfortunately, the supposed interview is canceled because the person that we will interview (according to Mrs. Estrada) is not around. And they don't know when will he/she come back. Though we are prepared with our supposed interview, we have no choice but to accept the fact that it was postponed. hahai. (-_-) So, we went back to the school cause we still have our class.
---THE ACTUAL INTERVIEW---
Only for of us went to NEDA XI because one of my groupmates had a class so she could not cone. But we are so glad that one of our classmates (who ia not currently enrolled on this subject) help us with our documentation. Through the help of her laptop and cam we were able have a good documentation. She is incharged for the capturing hte moments on our interview.
The one who made the appointment for us is the NEDA XI Administrative Officer IV (who happened to be the HR Manager but they refer it as administrative officer IV)of the said company or institution. She politely greeted us and then, asked for some sample questions about our interview(for them to prepare..
Unexpectedly, The chief admin. said that he will just give us a hard copy as a answer to all the questions that we had in our paper. Actually, that paper(prepared by one of our groupmates) is supposed to be our guide. But since they want to give us a printed answers so we have no choice. :-) After that, we still have some short discussions about there HR just for the sake of our documentation. And that is the third visit in NEDA XI.

The loss of a relationship can be incredibly hard - you can feel so much pain. It may be difficult for you to imagine your life without your partner or boyfriend - your lives have been so intertwined.
You may find yourself asking who you can trust, including your own judgment since you may not have envisioned the break-up. You may wonder if you were wrong to have trusted and believed your partner. You may begin to question how real your commitment was because if it was true how could it be over?
Your ability to trust may feel doubtful and insecure. You probably believed your partner, and expected your relationship to last. You may feel alone and comfortless, even if you're the one who decided to leave.
Well, it really takes time before you can re-build trust in yourself and others again. Even though this affinity is over that doesn't mean that you were wrong to trust her/him, and even if you were that doesn't mean that you'll make that mistake again. You can learn from this.
At times of loss, it is very common for feelings, beliefs and memories from the past honestly hurts, traumas, and losses to come up. Not only are you dealing with the present loss, but your past losses as well. No wonder, it hurts so much!
It is indeed important that you try to separate out which of your feelings, beliefs and responses belong to the present situation and which ones belong to the past. This is hard for you to do when you're feeling overwhelmed but it can also help you to feel less overwhelmed. Separating past and present feelings will help you to attach less of your pain to the break-up and can help you to feel more hopeful about getting over this break-up, because maybe you are not as upset about the break-up as you thought. You're still just as upset but it can be helpful for you to be aware that it's not all about the break up, that some is also coming from the past.
When you know that you are triggered (past feelings and issues are coming to the surface) you can find ways to comfort or reassure yourself, or to deal with those issues in other ways. The first step though is to separate the past from the present.

Last July 28, 2008, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo delivered her 8th State of the Nation Address during the 2nd regular session of the 14th congress of the Republic of the Philippines. As what I have read, it obviously focuses on the Human Resource and the President clearly mind for her people. After reading the President's 8th SONA, I came up with this 3 areas that is closely related to Human Resource.
"Our P 350 million training partnership with the private sector should qualify 60,000 for call centers, medical transcription, animation and software development, which have a projected demand of one million workers generating $13 billion by 2010."
- This statement of our honorable president could be a great news to everyone especially the college graduates and to the unemployed Filipinos. And because of these the rate of the unemployed would be minimized and thousands of Filipinos will have there own Job. And it's a great privilege for us IT students.
"Mula sa buwang ito, wala nang income tax ang sumusweldo ng P200,000 o mas mababa sa isang taon – P12 billion na bawas-buwis para sa maralita at middle class."
- We all know, that being an employee, we are obliged to pay our income tax which would be a big burden for the Filipino employees. Filipino employees are payed with the work and services they give. And it would be a brilliant idea that there will be no income tax to those who had a compensation of P200,000 and below. It's a grand privilege to those employees with a minimum salary and below minimum.
"1 billion pesos allotment for college scholarships or financial help to 70,000 students."
- On the president's SONA, this is one of the greatest news she gave. This is an excellent way of molding Filipinos to be globally competitive and outstanding graduates. It is a good technique in creating our future batch of impressive and educated employees and employers, which will help in the company's progress. And, another thing it will decrease the rate of the uneducated employees and employers in our nation.

Well, actually even I, as an IT student, was also wondering why. But after the few weeks of discussion about what a human resource is, I can definitely say that every student not only for BSIT and BSCS but all the courses must have this kind of subject. Why? Simply because we student would be dealing with our industry in the near future. The online giant AOL announced last October 18, 2006 that it is closing its Albuquerque call center, a move expected to result in the loss of more than 900 jobs by the end of December. It’s really difficult news. The cuts are part of a restructuring plan AOL announced in August, in which the company said as many as 5,000 employees would be laid off within six months - a quarter of its global work force. Albuquerque's call center at 6301 Jefferson St. N.E. employs more than 900 workers. The company wouldn't disclose the typical salary paid in Albuquerque, only saying it was "on par with the industry." Employees were told of the layoffs, and then given the day off. They will continue to work for AOL through Dec. 15, after which they will be offered a severance package that provides a combination of salary and benefits.
In total, AOL announced 1,400 job cuts in the United States. A call center in Tucson will also see about 400 job cuts, while a call center in Ogden, Utah, will be sold to another company. The reduction in customer service workers comes as AOL, a unit of Time Warner Inc., transitions away from charging customers for high-speed Internet, e-mail and other services and into an advertising-driven Web services company. Customers who have been maintaining their AOL subscription just to keep their AOL.com e-mail address, for example, now receive that service online for free.
AOL has maintained a call center in Albuquerque for about a decade. The Albuquerque facility was one of AOL's first customer call centers and remains its second-largest, falling just behind a call center in Oklahoma City that will remain open. The Albuquerque call center employees worked with subscribers to answer questions on high-speed Internet connections, billing issues, registration to the service and other areas of technical support. But with the company moving away from its subscriber-driven service, the need for customer service workers has minimized.
In August, Time Warner Inc., AOL's parent company, said it expected to spend $250 million to $350 million through 2007 to implement the changes, about half of that for employee severance. The AOL cuts are the latest in a series of work force fluctuations in the Albuquerque area's call centers, which employ an estimated 12,500 people in the metro area. AOL's departure means more than just job losses. The company was an advocate for Albuquerque as a home for corporate customer relations centers. The departure from Albuquerque is strictly due to AOL's change in business model. It has nothing to do with the viability of the local market or other economic factors.
